In previous entries I showed several new products introduced in Windows Server 2008 R2, now the turn of the Best Practices Analyzer (BPA). As the name suggests this tool so you can check whether the server configuration is in line with best practices. This tool is installed with each supported role (the condition is to have an appropriate role model for BPA), and its commissioning is done by selecting options in the role of the summary section (the Server Manager console). Earlier versions of this utility were separate applications, and the first version was released in 2006.

Running the analysis is done by selecting the command "Scan This Role," which after a few seconds is ready for verification. For each recommendation creates a detailed report on the reasons for not meeting the requirements, the possible consequences of failure and the recommended solution. It is worth noting that currently supports the following roles:

  1. Active Directory Certificate Services
  2. Active Directory Domain Services
  3. Domain Name System (DNS)
  4. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
  5. Internet Information Services (IIS)
  6. Remote Desktop Services (RDS)
  7. Network Policy and Access Services
